Frequently Asked Questions
-
What type of portraits do you shoot?I am a motherhood photographer, specializing in maternity, newborns, and families. Occasionally, I photograph events (birthdays, baby showers, etc.)
-
Do you offer mini sessions?Yes! You can subscribe to my email list found on the bottom of the homepage. This way, you will be the first to be notified of when seasonal mini sessions are released. You can also follow along on my Instagram for any mini session updates. Mini sessions are only held a few dates out of the year typically during spring and fall so you don't want to miss out!
-
Where are you located?I am based in Sterling, Virginia and serve predominantly in Loudoun County to include: Fairfax, Centreville, Leesburg, Sterling, Reston, Ashburn, Purcellville, Aldie, and Brambleton. Your portrait session includes my travel time anywhere within 25 miles of Sterling, Virginia. If you'd like to go somewhere else in Virginia, DC, or Maryland, there will be a travel fee ($0.95 per mile) to account for the extra hours of drive time there and back, and the time required beforehand for me to scout the location.
-
How will we choose a location for our session? There are great options all around Northern Virginia, DC, and Maryland. If you already have a location in mind, that's great! Even if you've never seen me photograph in a specific place before, I am always up for exploring a new location. If you're stumped on the location, that's okay too because I know lots of great locations and I will be glad to make some recommendations based off your preference of urban/downtown, rural/farm, or natural. Check out my blog post for my DMV location round-up for some location ideas.
-
What should we wear?Moms and moms-to-be have exclusive access to the DSP client closet where you can peruse a curated collection of hand picked dresses that best complements your beauty. This eliminates the hassle and stress of having to shop for yourself. Upon booking, an exclusive style guide and personalized style board with outfits for the whole family is provided to take the guess work out of coordinating and selecting outfits.
-
What happens if there is inclement weather on session day?Inclement weather policy: If winds are greater than 15mph within 24 hours of the shoot, the client can elect to re-schedule. If there is a greater than 50% (fifty-percent) chance of rain within 24 hours of the shoot, the photographer will reschedule the shoot for a mutually agreed upon reschedule date. If there is a 30-50% (thirty to fifty-percent) chance of rain within 24 hours of the shoot, the client can elect to re-schedule the session for a different day. If it starts raining halfway through the shoot or is a very cloudy day, once committed we cannot break up the session into two days. If it starts raining, the photographer will provide a clear umbrella and continue the session.
-
When is the best time to schedule a maternity session?I recommend scheduling a maternity session when mama is 30-35 weeks along. Around that time moms-to-be have an adorable bump but aren't so far along that they are uncomfortable.
-
How will we receive our digital gallery and how long does it take? You will be given access to an online (password protected) digital gallery via email where you can easily download, share and print all of your high resolution digital files. You will receive your online gallery within one to two weeks of your photo session.
-
Will our photos be edited?Yes, all of your images will be edited, color corrected and ready to print!
-
What type of newborn portraits do you shoot?I do in-home newborn lifestyle sessions. This means I do not take newborn photos in a studio but rather in your home, where you and your family are most comfortable. An in-home newborn lifestyle session is less posed, and more authentic, natural and true to life. I do provide posing guidance but I do not use complicated poses, props, or staged backdrops for your newborn session.
-
How early should I book? It's best to book during your second trimester or earlier. To accommodate newborn clients, I have to limit the number of bookings I can take each month due to the unpredictability of a newborn's arrival.
-
How do I book a session if I don't know when baby will arrive? When we book your in-home newborn session, I use your expected due date as a temporary placeholder on my calendar. I only take a limited number of newborn sessions each month, ensuring I do not overbook my calendar due to the unpredictability of your little one's arrival. While I aim to capture your newborn in the first 7-14 days post delivery, there is no pressure or set timeline. I will gladly give your family the time they need to be ready for the in-home session. Every delivery is different and sometimes newborns and mamas need extra time to settle in and bounce back from it all.
-
When do you shoot in-home newborn sessions?I prefer to shoot in-home newborn sessions on weekday mornings but can shoot on weekend mornings as well if requested. There is a good chance that you will still be figuring out your newborn and their "schedule" by the time I arrive. However, try to pay close attention to your baby's wake windows and patterns. This means if you notice that your baby is very fussy in the morning or extra sleepy but is extra adorable and snuggly in the afternoon then please let me know so we can pick a time that best accommodates you and your newborn. Lastly, lighting will play a role in our start time. Natural light is crucial. If there is zero natural light coming into the nursery or a room that you know you want to shoot in, we will most likely move the session time to accommodate.
-
How long does a session last?Your newborn baby is going to run the show, we will follow baby's lead. Plan on your session lasting 2 hours. This allows time for nursing/feeding, diaper changes, etc.
